    I'd look at the server logs to see whether the comments looked like they 
    were left by a human (loading CSS and JavaScript, navigating at random 
    times, etc.) before worrying about excluding non-humans: hiring people 
    who can and will work for fractions of a cent per manual comment spam is 
    getting more common all the time.
    
    Registration certainly does have its disadvantages, though: my 
    application for forum membership never got approved, so you either are 
    deprived of my priceless comments, or are free of my posting spam, 
    depending on how you look at it.
